Alison Fell

Alison Fell is Professor of French Cultural History at the University of Leeds. She is currently researching women's experiences in, and cultural responses to, the First World War in France and Britain, and is finishing a monograph entitled Back to the Front: Women as Veterans in France and Britain 1916-1933. She has recently published a co-edited volume with Christine Hallett on First World War nursing, has co-written a chapter on negotiating gender discourses in the wake of the war with Professor Susan Grayzel for the Oxford Handbook of the First World War, and is writing an article Belgian female refugees in Yorkshire.

Alison is also chair of the Steering Group for Legacies of War 1914-18/2014-18, a series of research projects and outreach activities with partners in Leeds and Yorkshrie focusing on the Centenary of the First World War.
