Learn how to trace your ancestors, find out what resources Kent Libraries have available and learn what life was like in Dover during the First World War. This free day at Dover Library is organised by Dover Castle (English Heritage) and Kent Libraries.
The event will include a series of free talks, running twice. The first session will run from 10am - 12 noon and this will be repeated from 12 noon - 2pm. The speakers will be:
Rob Illingworth, KCC Libraries, Registration and Archives. As a taster of the resources available at Dover Library and the Kent History and Library Centre, Rob will share some fascinating records kept by local headteachers during the war.
David Wood, Kent Family History Society. If you want to find out more about what your ancestors did durng the First World War, David will show you how to find out.
Derek Leach, Dover Society. Derek will talk about life in Dover during the war.
Phil Eyden, local author. Phil will be sharing images from a recently-discovered album of photographs taken at Archcliffe Fort.
There will be a number of other displays including information about Screen South's plans for a First World War trail around Dover.
The library computers will be available to use, with access to Find My Past, British Newspaper Archive and Ancestry. If you're not already a member of the library, please bring some ID and proof of address, to join straightaway.
