This exhibition tells the story of life on the western front for British and Belgian soldiers, from 1914 – 1918. Using objects loaned from the In Flanders Field Museum, Ypres, the exhibition focuses on the daily grind of soldiers as they lived and worked in the trenches, under terrible conditions and with few comforts. The exhibition is split into three parts: Army Life, the Horrors of War and Care on the Frontline. With artefacts used by men on the battlefields of Flanders, discover how many of these objects became vital parts of soldier’s experiences, to both survive the discomfort of war and to boost morale. The exhibition also explores the links between the people of Kent and the landscape of Flanders, building on Kent’s connection to this portion of the Western Front.
