Established in 1980, the Western Front Association (WFA) aims to perpetuate the memory, courage and comradeship of all those on all sides who served their countries in France and Flanders, during the Great War.
As part of its commitment to this end, the WFA is seeking to support post-graduate research students financially who are undertaking MPhils or PhDs into aspects of the conflict.
From 2015/6 academic year, the WFA has started a PhD Scholarship Programme that seeks to make a series of awards of around £1,000 to students to help further understanding and knowledge of the Great War.
Larger grants may be available depending on the merit of applications.
Candidates need to be a registered student on a recognised research programme, either full or part time, normally going into or in, their second or third year of study or above, at a university in the UK or Republic of Ireland, researching an aspect of the Great War.
The deadline for applications this academic year (2015/6) is 1st December 2015.
The deadline for next academic year (2016/7) is 1st March 2016.
Full details and an application form can be found on the Western Front Association website.
