Award-winning comedian and military history enthusiast, Al Murray, ‘The Pub Landlord’, will present his unique view of the role of humour in the British Army’s experience of the Western Front in the First World War.
Al, who read modern history at the University of Oxford, has presented a number of television documentaries on aspects of the Second World War and is the author of Watching War Films With My Dad (2013).

Since 1985 the Bucks Military Museum Trust has collected, preserved and exhibited material relating to The Royal Buckinghamshire Yeomanry/Hussars, The Buckinghamshire Battalions, The Bucks Volunteers, The Royal Bucks King’s Own Militia, their successor units and those other auxiliary military forces raised in the historic County of Buckinghamshire. Its main display is in the Old Gaol at Buckingham while its documentary and photographic collections are held in the Centre for Bucks Studies in Aylesbury.
The bi-annual Viney Memorial Lecture commemorates a founding Trustee, Major Elliott Viney, MBE, DSO, TD, known for his role in the 1st Bucks Battalion’s defence of Hazebrouck in May 1940 and one of four brothers who served with the battalion.
