Colchester and Chelmsford Sea Cadet units plan to take 30 cadets and staff to France and Belgium in July 2018.
They aim to trace the battles fought by the Royal Naval Division in the First World War.
For most of the cadets it will be a once in a lifetime experience to visit a battlefield and touch history.
Sea Cadets takes young people from 10-18 years old and gives them a head start in life through nautical skills and training.
They have very close links to the Royal Navy and follow their traditions and ethos.
Colchester Sea Cadets are unusual in the corps in being based on an actual ship: TS Colne Light is a 1953 built former Trinity House Light Ship.
Now converted to accommodate cadets she retains many of her original internal features and lamp.
She is on the UK list of Historical Ships and is much loved by all who have served aboard her.
Colchester unit currently has 30 cadets, aged between 12-17.
Gateways to the First World War Maritime exhibition is currently on display on the ship.
