Researching Entente Allies Symposium
The centenary of the First World War has raised new questions about how the encounters and relationships the allied forces had, within and without of the military during conflicts across the twentieth century. This symposium brings together academics and community groups working on the First World War and its aftermath to think about where and how we research the experience of the entente allies during the conflict. From the relationships between British and American troops to the colonial troops mobilized by the British and French Empires to the prisoner of war camps that became places of inter-allied contact, the speakers reveal some of the unexpected and unusual methods and stories contained in the archives. This will be an opportunity to pose your questions to experts and get advice on how to research these histories.
Speakers include Dr Sam Edwards (Manchester Metropolitan University), Prof Alison Fell (University of Leeds), Dr Chris Kempshall (Goldsmiths, University of London), Anna Maguire (Imperial War Museum and King’s College London), Dr Alexia Moncrieff (University of Leeds) and Dr Oliver Wilkinson (University of Wolverhampton).
Room for 30 attendees
