Threadbare Theatre Company are delighted to bring to Oxted a collection of First World War plays written between 1915 and 1918, including one little known piece written by A. A. Milne of Winnie the Pooh fame.
In collaboration with Gateways to the First World War (an Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded project), and as part of their Play at the Pub productions at The Crown Inn, the event will take the form of a Music Hall entertainment, with songs from the period and a Chairman hosting the evening.
Food will be served in the mess hall marquee from 6:30pm and as always with Play at the Pub productions if you book food you are guaranteed to watch the play from your table for the whole evening. Tables and seats can also be booked without food.
There will also be a pop-up exhibition on First World War theatre, and a Q & A session with the actors and director after the show on Wednesday 11th, hosted by First World War theatre specialist Dr Helen Brooks from the University of Kent. Here you can find out more about the Gateways project; the history of these plays; and also what goes into creating a show such as this, which combines 100-year-old works and music with brand new writing.
